What is bufferbloat and why should I care?
When your line is busy (downloads, streaming, other people at home) the router's queue swells and ping skyrockets — that's bufferbloat. It's the number-one cause of "my internet is fast but games stutter". Clutch manages the queue with SQM (cake): even on a saturated line, latency stays low.
Does Clutch actually lower my ping?
Honest answer: nobody can beat the speed of light — base ping is distance. What Clutch removes is the added latency under load, sudden spikes and packet loss. In our real measurements we saw 0% packet loss across ~8,500 packets in a 35+ minute CS2 match, and we prove exactly where loss happens — your access leg vs. Valve's own backbone. See the raw data on the Proof page.
Which routers / lines does it work with?
Clutch is firmware that runs on OpenWRT-supported routers. You put your ISP modem into bridge mode and let the Clutch router handle PPPoE. Works on fiber, VDSL and cable. The supported device list is growing — final list at launch.
Is setup hard?
No. Plug in the device, open the panel, follow the wizard. SQM is measured and tuned with one tap (auto-tune); game priority is a single switch. Advanced screens exist for power users.
What does the CGNAT warning in the panel mean?
It means your ISP gives you a shared IP (100.64.x.x) instead of a public one. Behind CGNAT, port forwarding, hosting a home VPN and inbound access don't work; on some lines it's also the source of ping spikes. The fix: request a static/public IP from your ISP. On our own line, switching to a static IP completely eliminated the 62-85 ms spikes that hit every minute — raw data on the Proof page.
Can you see my traffic?
No. Clutch only sees performance metrics: ping, packet loss, bufferbloat, WiFi/WAN health. What sites you visit or what you watch — never. No DPI, no SNI sniffing, no logs. Remote management can be fully disabled with one switch.
What changes on FACEIT and Valve servers?
Game traffic gets DSCP marking and priority on your line: your packets go first even while someone streams video at home. The panel live-monitors the route to Valve and FACEIT servers (Game Path); if the direct path degrades, automatic mitigation kicks in. The server's base ping is distance — we fix everything in between.
Do I need to change my internet plan?
No. It works with your current line and plan. The only common advice: put your ISP modem in bridge mode (free) and request a static IP if you're behind CGNAT.
How much is it and how do I get one?
Pricing and sales model will be announced soon. Drop your email on the early-access list — you'll be the first to know at launch and when beta slots open.
